Evangelism Explosion in South Africa
In 1978, Pastor Johan Landman launched Evangelism Explosion (EE) in Pretoria, South Africa, with a Leadership Training Clinic for 40 pastors and church leaders. Since then, thousands of other clinics have been conducted in that nation. Those clinics equipped tens of thousands more pastors and leaders. From the beginning, the response to EE (Evangelism Explosion) was very positive. The ministry spread throughout South Africa to more than 1000 denominations.
All the basic training materials have been translated and published in all 11 official languages of South Africa, making it possible for EE (Evangelism Explosion) to train in any of those languages. A total of 750 churches now implement Evangelism Explosion training more than 30,000 people each year.Â
The first Board of Directors was formed in 1979. In 1983, Rev. Harold Peasley, was appointed the first Director (later renamed Executive Director). The ministry grew rapidly through Harold’s vision and efforts. He served a total of 17 years.
Early in its ministry, Evangelism Explosion South Africa caught the Great Commission vision. It reached out to neighboring nations, taking clinics to Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, Nambia, Botswana, Madagascar. It was even instrumental in taking Evangelism Explosion to Thailand and Russia.
Twakkies du Toit, himself from South Africa helped the ministry greatly. He is now Senior Vice President for National Building at Evangelism Explosion International. Rev. Nico Van Wyk the current National Director of South Africa and Regional Director for Southern Africa, presently encourages EE in 14 countries and territories.
